The World Karate Federation (WKF) has announced significant updates to its competition rules, effective from January 1, 2024. These updates span both Kata and Kumite disciplines. Key changes include:
Kumite:
- WKF Approved Helmet: Mandatory use of the “WKF Helmet” or “WKF Face Mask” for U14 categories starting January 1, 2023, with exclusive use of the “WKF Helmet” from January 1, 2024.
- Penalties: A unified single-tier system for penalties, reducing the number and simplifying management by the referee.
- Electronic Scoring System: Replacing flags used by corner judges with joysticks, enabling immediate result combination and display on monitors.
These changes reflect the WKF’s ongoing commitment to evolving the sport and enhancing competition standards.
