Day 3 of Budapest 2023 Sees Japan, Turkiye, and Italy Ascend in Team Kata Showdowns

The competitive fervor at the 2023 World Senior Championships in Budapest reached a fever pitch on Day 3, as Team Kata categories took the spotlight. The defending champions from Japan demonstrated their mastery yet again, clinching spots in the finals of both Male and Female Team Kata categories. Yet, the day also saw impressive performances from teams of Turkiye and Italy, who will challenge Japan’s longstanding dominion in the finals.

In the Male Team Kata, Japan’s finesse was on full display as they topped the final pool. Their journey towards defending their title, a crown they have held since 2016, saw a significant milestone. However, Turkiye emerged as a formidable contender, marking their first-ever World Championships final appearance by dominating their pool.

The competition for the bronze in the Male Team Kata will witness face-offs between Spain and Italy, and France and Kuwait, promising a fierce contest for the podium.

On the distaff side, Japan showcased their customary brilliance in the Female Team Kata, securing their spot in the finals. Italy, vying for their maiden title, gave a strong rebuttal by topping their pool. The Japanese side, having held the crown since 2018 and seven times in the last ten editions, will face a determined Italian team, reaching the finals for the first time since 2012.

The contest for bronze in the Female Team Kata category features matchups between Spain and Morocco, and Turkiye and Egypt, adding more intrigue to the competition.

Adding to the day’s competitive narrative was the initiation of Kumite Team elimination rounds. The Kumite Team battles brought a blend of team strategy and individual combat skills to the forefront, marking the beginning of a rigorous quest for team supremacy in Kumite categories.
