Spain Leads Medal Count at 31st Mediterranean Karate Championships

31st Mediterranean Karate Championships

The 31st Mediterranean Karate Championships were held in Guadalajara, Spain, gathering athletes from 14 countries across the region. Despite the absence of Egypt and Morocco, traditionally strong nations, the event delivered high-level competition in kata and kumite across cadet, junior, senior, and para-karate divisions.

As the host nation, Spain emerged as the dominant force of the tournament, topping the medal table with an impressive tally across all age categories. From cadet kumite to senior kata, Spanish athletes secured numerous titles, underlining the country’s depth and strength. The championships also featured the Beach Kata Games at the Parque de la Chopera, a festive innovation that saw Spain claim the first gold medals of the weekend.

While Spain led the way, nations like Italy, Portugal, Greece, and Kosovo also stood out with multiple champions, confirming the growing competitiveness of Mediterranean karate.

With Guadalajara 2025 now concluded, attention turns to the next edition of the Mediterranean Championships, which will be hosted in Alexandria, Egypt. The return of one of the region’s traditional karate powerhouses promises an even stronger field, setting the stage for another exciting clash of Mediterranean nations.
