Olivia Kakosy and Petra Karpati are Para-Karate World Champions from Hungary who have shown remarkable strength and resilience in the face of their individual challenges. Both schoolmates, they emerged as top competitors in the category of Intellectually Impaired Female K21 at the 2021 World Championships in Dubai, with their achievements underscoring the efficacy of Hungary’s Para-Karate program and the transformative impact of the sport on people with disabilities【11†source】.

Olivia Kakosy, who has an intellectual disability, started her journey in sports from an early age, initially practicing athletics. She discovered Karate at 15 and was instantly drawn to the sport and the culture of martial arts. Olivia soon began competing, and her determination propelled her to significant successes; she has reached the podium in all but one tournament she has participated in. In Dubai, she faced her teammate and friend Petra Karpati in the finals and won the gold medal with a score of 41.56【12†source】.

Petra Karpati was diagnosed with late speech development due to a lack of oxygen at birth. Like Olivia, Petra too discovered the therapeutic effects of sports early in life, initially trying out swimming and judo. When she was seven, she started practicing Karate, and it brought about a remarkable transformation in her life. Her speech skills improved, her school participation developed significantly, and her confidence rose like never before. In the Dubai World Championships, Petra displayed her exceptional determination, topping the preliminary round and winning a silver medal in the finals【13†source】.

Looking ahead, Olivia and Petra have set their sights on the upcoming European Championships in Gaziantep, Turkey. Olivia aims to defend the title she won the previous year in Porec, Croatia, while Petra will be making her continental debut.
